Our idea for the Beautify Our School/ Recycle Art Competition

We are going to make a map of New Zealand using bottle tops! Please save all your bottle tops, and bring them in to school. Maybe you could ask your wider family members, and neighbours too?

Current Affairs news focus

For our daily oral language this term, I am introducing Current Affairs. Children are encouraged to bring current affairs news to school whenever they come across something they find interesting. I am sure their topics will initiate a lot of discussion for us all.
One of the main reasons for introducing current affairs into children’s lives is so that they don’t live in a “bubble”. We want them to know that they are privileged here in the West and that there are families in parts of the world who are living through experiences that are different, often tough.
There is evidence that children who are aware of the wider world, and how the big issues link to subjects they are studying, are children who excel at school. The habit of listening to, reading and discussing current affairs, gives a huge boost to the foundations of understanding and to a coherent, joined-up body of knowledge.
So, I hope you will enjoy looking at the newspapers, or Stuff, or wherever you like, for news, and discussing it with your child this term.
Ideas could be: newspaper, on the internet (e.g. www.stuff.co.nz) the TV news, or the radio news.

Sun hats

What a fantastic start to the new term! It was lovely to see all the beautiful Room 2 children again - I missed you all!
Remember, you must all wear a wide brimmed hat, to be able to play outside this term.
